Hexchat does not properly reconnect after system standby

After the system wakes up from standby, there's an endless loop of those messages:

* No ping reply for 9412 seconds, disconnecting.
* No ping reply for 9442 seconds, disconnecting.
* No ping reply for 9472 seconds, disconnecting.
* No ping reply for 9502 seconds, disconnecting.
* No ping reply for 9532 seconds, disconnecting.
*

and it never actually disconnects, although it prints a message it's disconnecting and hence never reconnect. I have to manually issue /disconnect and then /reconnect.

Hexchat 2.16.1 but it has been doing that for a while now.
